Waverly Central School District's high school athletic field has been honored with a 2024 Single Field Award by the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA). This prestigious accolade recognizes excellence in sports facility design and construction. The state-of-the-art field, part of the district’s broader capital improvement initiative, was praised for its innovative design, high-quality construction, and positive impact on students, athletes, and the community.

The project, which included advanced turf installation, optimized drainage systems, and versatile field layout with portable fencing to allow for simultaneous gameplay, was a result of collaborative efforts between the District, Tetra Tech Architect & Engineers’ Site Design Group, Huntress Associates, and LeChase Construction. The field provides a professional-grade experience for athletes and serves as a hub for school events and community engagement.

"The design was necessarily mindful of project budget constraints and accessibility needs, demanding efficiencies in layout," said Michael Hale, RLA, Tetra Tech’s Site Design Department Manager. "We worked closely with Waverly and Huntress to finalize the design and overcome the complexities of incorporating multiple field events with careful grading and safety features.”

The award reinforces Waverly CSD’s dedication to offering modern, innovative infrastructure that enhances the student experience and fosters community pride.

“The project is a centerpiece for our small rural community,” said Superintendent Dr. Eric Knolles. “It has created opportunities and given our kids a feeling of school pride. We would like to thank our thought partners at Tetra Tech for bringing our dream into reality.”
